"Sour" feeling due to Acidity

You must have experienced a sour feeling in the stomach early in the morning after a late night dinner or after had your meals. These factors contribute to heartburn also known as acid indigestion or 'sour stomach', commonly called 'acidity'. Are you wants to cure for stomach?

Acidity affects about 70% of the population and which leads to precursor for duodenal ulcers, and stomach cancer.

The main scientific reason behind acidity problem is our eating habbits.
When we eats food it gets digested and passes through the digestive system consisting of mouth, stomach, small intestine and large intestine. The most important part digestion occurs is the stomach, where gastric (stomach) acid such as hydrochloric acid and enzymes helps break down proteins for further digestion in the small intestine.

A normal healthy stomach has a fasting pH (acidity level) between 1&2. This degree of acid is required to digest food properly.

But production of digestive juices more than the required quantity enforced it to enter in essphagus causing the heat burn which is termed as 'acid reflux', causing irritation, inflammation and even ulceration and sometimes a feeling of warmth sweeping into the throat.

Causes:

The most common cause of heart burn is gastroesophageal reflux disease, in which sphincter (value) between the esophagus and stomach is not functioning properly.
Fat, alcohol, smoking and candy such as mints or chocolate can weaken the esophageal muscle that controls the opening between the stomach and esophagus. This cause acid reflex.

Overeating or eating too rapidly, or not chewing the food properly.
Intake of spicy, protienous food or improperly cooked foods is also characterized by sour belches.

Steps to avoid acidity:

• Eat small frequent meals instead of 3 big meals a day. Small amount of food we eat, causes less excretion on the stomach and therefore requires less acid secretion for digestion.

• Don't over drink, beaverages that stimulate acid secretion like tea, coffee or bear.

• Drinking milk before sleeping is found to eventually encourage the secretion of more stomach acid.

• Avoid all types of spicy and fried food.

• Avoiding stress and modify the life style.

• Do not lie down two or three hours after eating a meal.

• Excess weight also triggers heartburn.
